While there is a shift in tech industry scenario withing India, powered up by the latest ‘Make In India’ campaign, Apple brings interesting news which one might relate to it. Apple, the Cupertino based company, which was until now reluctant to do any business through India, is now changing its thoughts on the same. As reported by Economic Times, Apple is looking to set up a technology development centre. Experts suggest that this move doesn’t come as a surprise as many of the tech giants have started to shift their operation chains operating via India.
Earlier in 2006, Apple had shut down its tech support centre in India citing poor service quality. As claimed by ET, the new project is in early stages of the development. And the reason behind this interest is said to be a pool of engineers who have specialized themselves in the retail and e-commerce sectors. With Indian origin engineers already making a mark in top tech industries all around the world, Apple has shown interest to tap the potential by targeting its source itself.
Unspecified sources quoted in ET also specified that Bob Kupbens, vice-president as Apple Online Retail, is the spearhead for the proposal of this program. The reports hold ground as Kupbens has insight knowledge about business sector in India. He was overseeing strategy and execution at Target’s captive technology development and BPO centre in Bengaluru when he previously worked with Delta Airlines.
These proceedings, if materialize, would open a new direction for a big pool of homegrown coders and tech savvy professionals. Not only Apple, but other big league companies too have started showcased their interests towards Indian coding and technical potentials recently. Xiaomi has already announced plans to set up a research and development centre in India. Xiaomi cites the same reason by testifying India as a major hub of budding coders and skilled workforce concerned with technology world.
